Current Beauty Favourites

Hi all! This is my very first blog post and I thought that I’d start out with some of my current beauty favourites. This isn’t necessarily a “monthly favourites”, it’s more of what I’ve been loving over the past few months. As I get more invested in my blog, I will eventually start monthly favourites posts.

1. Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette

The first item is something that I got on sale for half off a while back – which is one of the reasons I decided to finally pick it up and give it a whirl. I’m talking about the UD Naked Smoky Palette. This palette surprised me, and I didn’t think I’d like it as much as I do. All of the shades blend beautifully, and it is very versatile. It not only has dark shades for a real smoky eye, but you can also create a soft smoky eye with some of the lighter colours. My absolute favourite colours in the palette are High and Combust, which I have swatched on my arm for you to see. My everyday shadow look that I wear to work is usually High all over the lid, with Combust in the crease. It’s really simple but it looks amazing!

2. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

This lipstick formula has become one of my favourites. I picked up the shade Paris (because of my love of the city but I actually love the shade). It’s the perfect hot pink for summer and I can’t wait to wear it all season. The lipsticks dry down matte, but are extremely comfortable on the lips. I have a hard time liking certain matte lipsticks because of the fact that most of them dry my lips out, but these lipsticks are the perfect formula.

3. The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops

These drops in the lightening shade are perfect for pale people like me. Some foundations don’t make shades pale enough for me, so if I buy a foundation that’s too dark, I use these to lighten them up. I will say that they have a slight pink tint, which may not work for someone with yellow undertones, but I have pink undertones and it works well with all of my foundations. It doesn’t change the formula at all and wears well throughout the day.

4. Clinique Cheek Pop Blush

These blushes are some of my favourites. They wear well during the day (and I have combination skin), the colours are gorgeous, they blend like a dream, and the packaging is adorable! The one I recently picked up is in the shade Peach Pop, and it’s the perfect shade for summer time. I highly recommend these blushes.

5. Lise Watier Metamorfix Liquid Transformer

This stuff is amazing. I’m someone that hates using liquid liner, and would much prefer to use a gel liner with a brush. I just find that I have more control than I would with a liner pen. With Metamorfix, you can take any eyeshadow shade and mix it to create your perfect liner. All you have to do is squirt a bit out onto a palette or plate, dip your brush into the liquid, and then dip it into your eyeshadow pan. It keeps the liner on all day, doesn’t flake off, and doesn’t smudge. This stuff is really great, especially if you don’t want to spend tons of money on eyeliner.

6. Revlon Colourstay Gel Envy Nail Polish

I love this line of polish. I have about 10 colours, and all are amazing. They last about a week without chipping with the right top coat – I use the Gel Envy top coat that goes with these polishes or the Essie base/top coat. The shade I’ve been loving the past few weeks is Win Big, and it’s this amazing rose/purple gold colour, which is on my nails right now.

7. Essence I Love Colour Intensifying Eyeshadow Base

This is the best shadow primer from the drugstore that I’ve ever used. It’s extremely inexpensive, and it works better than some high end primers I’ve used. Not only does it do what is says (intensifies colour), it makes your shadow last the entire day and doesn’t crease or smudge off. It has a pink tint to it, but it blends out really nicely and provides a great canvas. This is definitely going to be a staple in my collection!

8. Laura Mercier Radiance Face Primer

This primer is great for those with combination skin like me. It has a bit of a gold tint to it, but once blended in the tint is gone. It provides a nice glow and dewy look, which is perfect for someone looking to look a little glowy without looking glittery. I would say that depending on the foundation, it can make my makeup last almost the entire day. It’s water based so it would work well with water based foundations (I use it with Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea Foundation). One more thing to note is that the travel size of the primer is 1oz, which is the same size as most other primers’ full size! So the price of this primer is a steal for high end.

9. L’Oreal Brow Stylist Plumper Gel Mascara

This brow mascara has become one that I use every day. I have pretty thick eyebrows to begin with, so I don’t fill them in on a daily basis. What I do everyday is comb through them with brow mascara, and this stuff holds my brows in place all day. Even when I do fill in my brows with powder, I usually comb through with this brow gel to keep them in place. I use the shade Medium/Dark, and I have dark brown hair so it matches my brows nicely. The brush is also fairly small, which is great for precise application.
